To the beachâ¦
The beach? She thought. Which means the sea. She wants to take me swimming in the sea, in December. But⦠why?
This, the same woman who called some of her friends in the U3A swimming group who went cold-water swimming every weekday morning mad! What on earth was Mary thinking? Was she drunk?
Ah, yes, of course, thatâs what it was. She and Godric had shared a bottle of wine and, half tipsy, theyâd come up this half-baked idea while cosied up next to the fire.
She was about to text back, no way, when another text followed saying Mary wouldnât take no for an answer. Then another saying please, including a smiley face and the praying hands emoji. Mary rarely, if ever, asked Jill for anything.
And remembering everything Mary had done for her, not just today but ever since she and Jack Junior had first moved here, Jill texted back, okay with a smiley face emoji and two kisses. She hoped, come the morning, come the cold light of day, common sense would prevail, and Mary would have changed her mind again. Sheâd set her alarm for 7am anyway, just in case.
The second text was from her friend Liv, who sheâd spent a lovely hour talking to on the phone earlier. They laughed about her drunken night out, and subsequent hangover, and although Jill was desperate to talk about Gabby and Jack Junior, she kept it brief, played it down. Liv had enough of her own problems right now, including a recent cancer scare and her mother-in-lawâs diagnosis with Alzheimerâs, so the last thing she needed was Jill going on about her problems.
She told her about what happened in the garden though, about her panic attack, then remembering the quote her father used to say, followed by the whistling noise, and a kite hovering above her. Liv said it was a sign, but then again, she would, and Jill knew that. Surely that was why, subconsciously â or was it consciously? â sheâd told her about it in the first place.
Jill wasnât convinced, of course, but she was always willing to listen to those who believed in signs. And sure enough, after theyâd finished talking, Liv had done some research and as well as sending her links to various websites of spiritual healers, life coaches and shamans, she also texted:
The kiteâs message is to relax and be comforted. To release the pain and go with the flow. It is time to move on and look forward. The prophecy of the kite is telling you to let go. Graceful and buoyant, the kite will bring about truths and wisdom while keeping the watery emotions in balance. Call to mind the spirit of the kite when making psychic connections or trying to strengthen psychic awareness.
